Muk3D training coming to Brisbane in October 2023

Whether you're a new Muk3D user who wants to start using Muk3D, or know the software inside out and want to automate your workflows, come and join us in Brisbane for one of our training courses.

Introduction to Muk3D

This 1-day course is aimed at new or intermediate Muk3D users and provides a good overview of the tools within Muk3D for importing data, creating basic earth structures and running volumetrics, conceptual design of TSFs, and development of tailings staging plans.

Using one of our sample datasets, participants will cover the following:

  • Importing raw data such as LIDAR, drone survey, satellite survey

  • Creating surfaces and grids

  • Building basic earth structures and undertaking volumetrics

  • Working with aerial imagery

  • Conceptual layout of TSFs

  • Long range planning for TSFs

  • Evaluation of key parameters for tailings planning

  • Modelling of different pond/water management options

  • Basic overview of scripting in Muk3D with Python

While the course does not require that the participant has used Muk3D before, exposure to 3D CAD tools and basic tailings planning is beneficial.

Integration of GoldSim & Excel models with Muk3D|Simulation and Python

For intermediate and advanced Muk3D users, this course will teach you how to use Python scripting to allow Muk3D to run data-driven models from Excel or GoldSim.

Using one of our sample datasets, participants will run through the following:

  • Recording and editing Python scripts using Muk3D’s macro capabilities

  • Interfacing Muk3D with Excel

  • Dam sizing sensitivity analysis using Muk3D and Excel

  • Running a simple tailings staging plan with Muk3D and Excel

  • Interfacing Muk3D to GoldSim

  • Running a simple tailings staging plan using Muk3D and GoldSim

This course assumes that participants have a moderate to high level of understanding of Muk3D and have at least a basic understanding of the Python scripting language or exposure to other programming languages (e.g., Visual Basic). For users with no exposure to Python, we recommend running through some basic Python tutorials before the course commences.

This course does not cover the construction of GoldSim tailings and water balance models – we’ll be working with a simple model and showing how the interaction between Muk3D and GoldSim is achieved.

We do not recommend this course for new users - the focus here is on scripting rather than teaching users how to model with Muk3D or teaching tailings planning concepts.

Facilitators

The Introduction to Muk3D course will be led by Ged Suter and the Muk3D|Simulation course will be led by Carlo Cooper.

Ged Suter

Ged is the Regional manager for Asia/Pacific for MineBridge Software and is based in Brisbane. He has over 30 years of experience in geotechnical engineering with a focus on tailings storage facilities. Ged has almost 10 years of experience using Muk3D.

Carlo Cooper

Carlo is the founder of MineBridge Software Inc is the Regional manager for North America and is based in Calgary. He has over 20 years of experience with tailings planning, including over 15 years of experience modelling TSFs with Muk3D.

Cost

The cost for attending each day of the course will be $600 AUD. A 10% discount will be offered if 3 or more participants are registered from the same company. The price includes a Muk3D training license, lunch, and refreshments.

We ask that you advise of any dietary or allergy requirements at the time of registration.

Requirements

General

This is an interactive training session. All attendees are required to come along with a Windows PC (Windows 10, Windows 11), with the latest version of Muk3D installed. Software downloads can be found at https;//dl.muk3d.com.

We will issue training licenses to all attendees a week before the course. Participants are expected to install the training license and verify that it’s working prior to the commencement of the course. If this isn’t done and there are licensing issues that arise during the course, we will only be able to assist you during breaks so as not to disrupt other participants.

Training datasets will also be provided prior to the commencement of the course and all participants must download these and have them available on a letter mapped drive on their computer complying to our requirements.

Muk3D|Simulation

For the Muk3D|Simulation training, given that we'll be editing Python scripts, an appropriate text editor is required. Windows Notepad is not considered acceptable. We recommend using Notepad++.

A GoldSim license is optional - the training can be completed using the free GoldSim player.

Refund policy

There are no refunds for training classes if cancelled 14 days or less from the date of the commencement of the training day(s). If a refund is provided and it changes the number of participants to below the multi-attendee discount threshold, this will be accounted for when issuing the refund.

If we are notified that a participant can’t attend less than 14 days from the date of the event, it's permissible to assign the registration to another participant from the same company. In the event that a participant does not attend the course due to extenuating circumstances, it will be at the discretion of MineBridge Software Inc as to how this will be handled.
