How to set license timeout on a network server

Quickly adjust network license timeouts: Admins can edit the 'CleanUpTimeOut' registry entry and restart the CodeMeter service for faster reconnection.

Sometimes if you're connected to the a network license and either Muk3D shuts down, or network connectivity is lost temporarily, it may be impossible to get reconnected to the server for a period of time.  The license will show on the server as being in use (by the user who was disconnected) and by default it will be unavailable for about an hour.

To fix this, the CodeMeter license server can be configured with a shorter timeout period.  This can only be undertaken by someone with Administrator access to the license server as it requires editing a registry entry.

  • Press Windows+R (run a program) and type regedit.exe

  • Navigate to the entry: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WIBU-SYSTEMS\CodeMeter\Server\CurrentVersion

  • The registry key 'CleanUpTimeOut' controls how long a license with no activity is permitted to stay active.  This number can be set to be as low as 2 or 3 minutes.  Shorter timeouts may inadvertently disconnect users. The units of the value entered is minutes.  So for a 5 minute time out, enter '5'.

  • Restart the CodeMeter service either through the Services App or in CodeMeter Control Center by running "Process/Restart CodeMeter process".
